My name is Julie Platt and I am currently enrolled in the  Master of Social Work, with a concentration in community organization social action and a Master of Public Health in behavioral and community health sciences. I have experience working in diverse communities around the world to implement  culturally appropriate strength-based interventions.

  •  Tracked three-year grant outcomes to determine the effectiveness of Sports for Peace intervention for 300+ Palestinian, Arab-Israelis, and Israeli girls

  • Managed social media campaign that sought to share the impact of the female soccer teams with stakeholders while soliciting engagement from previously uninvolved communities

Coach Development Program Coordinator Grassroot Soccer, Cape Town, South Africa                                               

International NGO that uses the power of soccer to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa

  • Organized programming for  ‘coach development’ across three sites in South Africa for over 300 coaches

  • Coordinated  with employment partners at both the countrywide and local levels resulting in 71% of existing coaches gaining employment after their time as a GRS coach

  • Rewrote development-based curriculum with a focus on reducing the “employment skill gap”

  • Tracked program activities through the utilization of Salesforce software and USAID Citrix program

  • Analyzed the pre- and post-data for qualitative assessment of GRS coach development program

 

RV United Physical Activity Study Grassroot Soccer, Cape Town, South Africa                                                            

 RV United is an all-female soccer team that promotes healthy behaviors through nutrition and physical activity

  • Piloted evidence based physical activity/body assessment study in township of Cape Town

  • Analyzed the pre- and post-data  from intervention to determine if young women from Cape Town are responsive to lifestyle interventions

  • Managed the nutrition counseling and created a unique diet plan that focused on female athletics

  • Worked with team to identify the structural  barriers that led to adverse health outcomes in community

VISTA AmeriCorps Member, Street Soccer USA, New York City                                                               

National nonprofit that uses soccer to help homeless men and women find health care, employment, housing and drug alcohol therapy

  • Coached the United States Women’s Team at ‘The Homeless World Cup’ in Mexico City, Mexico

  • Worked with executive director to identify streams of funding for the USA national tournament held in Times Square 

  • Developed a workbook that kept track of the physical and emotional progress and goals of 200+homeless soccer players throughout the country

  • Researched and developed a guide to help Street Soccer coaches nationwide understand health care and government policies as they apply to homeless men and women

 

Assistant Director, Street Soccer Philadelphia Team, Philadelphia                                                                    

  • Played soccer with homeless men to teach them life skills and connect with housing, employment and social services

  • Expanded program participation by 50% by collaborating with community health planners to identify the most at-risk men in need of service

  • Instituted structured exercise mindful/yoga program in order to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles monitored players improvement  and collaborated with players on physical fitness goal setting

  • Organized a sustainable volunteer program resulting in an increase of dedicated volunteers from 2 to 10

  • Piloted a virtual job board on Facebook to assist the men in looking for jobs/educational opportunities

  • Planned fundraising events such as  October celebrations and Winter Auction to raise capital for program expansion resulting in a surplus of $2000

Running Leader, Student Run Philly Style, Philadelphia                                                                                   

A nonprofit organization that offers marathon training to disadvantaged youth in Philadelphia's public schools

  • Ran weekly with 15 high school students from inner city Philadelphia

  • Mentored and motivated students to meet their goals of running in the Philadelphia half and full marathons 

Social Justice

Intake Coordinator Project HOME’s Hub of Hope, Philadelphia                                                                     

  • Worked with Project HOME in train station during the winter months to help deliver medical services to the most hard to reach homeless men and women in Philadelphia

  • Counseled participants on health issues and helped them navigate the public health and housing systems

  •  Measured and evaluated how clients used different services to identify usage trends

Special Events and Outreach Volunteer, CeaseFire/Cure Violence: Temple Center for Urban Health and Policy 

Cure Violence NGO model that addresses gun violence within vulnerable communities as a public health issue

  • Helped plan third annual ‘Game of Love’ basketball tournament in North Philadelphia for men 17-24 to spread awareness of  the dangers of gun-based violence in Philadelphia

  • Participated in community mobilized marches after a murder/gun shooting in order to bring awareness to the violence in Philadelphia

  • Oversaw Project HOME’s switch to an online auction format using Biddingforgood raising over $20,000

  • Implemented a public health campaign for Melanoma Awareness- including events, print and social media for a target audience of over 10,000

  • Organized the Taxin Golf & Bridge Classic, a 200-person event that raised $100,000 for brain tumor research

  • Managed both the online and “live” auction that raised over $10,000 for the Taxin Classic
